There are many simple actions which can help to reduce you electricity consumption. Take the living room for example. Remember to switch off the television when you are in a long phone call or if you are busy cooking. In the same way, switch off your iron box immediately after pressing your clothes. Iron boxes consume a lot of electricity because of its heating element.

Shutting down your computer at night and at the times when you don’t use it will surely help you to reduce the electricity usage. To save cost, don’t use printer to print unnecessary material. Plan before you print and take only needed copies.

Put all of your used vessels in the dishwasher at one time. Don’t forget to switch off the main switch of the washing machine and dish washer after you are finished the work. An idle electrical appliances plugged into the power socket will take some amount of power.

Try to use the minimum comfortable lights in a room. Try not to switch on all the lights just for a single person. At the day time, try to use the sunlight to illuminate the house instead of switching on all the lights. When using a microwave oven, set the correct cooking settings for the dish. Don’t put the cold items into the oven which will waste energy. Let the cold item warm up first in room temperature.

Check all of your electrical items at least once in a month for any fault because an improper machine will waste lot of electricity. Clean your water filter in a regular interval. Dusty filters will spend more electricity.

Make sure there is no voltage fluctuation at your home. Voltage problem will waste electricity as well as damage your electronic goods. When you use air conditioner in a room, be sure that all the windows and doors are closed. Make it as a habit to switch off the A/C before leaving the room. Don’t dump things in the rooms where you use air condition.

If you charge any electronic item such as mobile phone, switch off the plug point after you removed the item from the charger.

There are many more ways you can consider to reduce your home energy consumption. Alternatively, you can supplement your home power usage by using a home solar energy system or renewable energy source.
