Grocery Saving Tips To Stretch Your Household Budget

Grocery shopping is a necessity, but one that’s getting more expensive all the time. Being aware of certain marketing practices, using coupons, spending money on a money-saving freezer, product location, and going shopping with children are all factors to consider for successful, money saving grocery shopping.

Manufacturers are downsizing the packages but raising the prices. Consumers need to be aware of this. When a product touts a “new look” it may also be hiding the fact that the package is smaller than it used to be. Additionally, that gigantic package of paper towels might not be as economical as some might think.

When companies realized that people were buying the huge packages for the convenience as much as for the price, some continued to market the bigger ones, just stopped making them a bargain. When possible, try to compare the price per unit. This is confusing at times because the stores occasionally use dissimilar factors on the shelf tags.

One may say price per sheet, while the other might say price per square foot. This is extremely frustrating for comparison shoppers. Sometimes a calculator helps, for those who want to do the math.

Clipping coupons is a hassle, but one that is well worth the effort. Many stores double the coupon value up to a certain amount, and this can really add up.

Watch for items on sale, and then use coupons for that product to give you an even bigger savings. Occasionally, stores will offer double coupons on all values. While rare, this is a great opportunity to grab some big discounts.

Stores that give customers loyalty cards will sometimes have coupons that customers can download from a computer right onto the card. Those loyalty cards are one more way to save. The cards are free, and the savings can be substantial.

The whole idea of smart grocery shopping is all about saving money and stretching your budget. A dollar saved is a dollar earned. You can also extend your household income by setting up your own organic garden in your backyard. For a small investment, the fruits and vegetable yield from your garden can be quite substantial.
